Attending SOAR, Georgia Southern’s orientation, is your required first step before enrolling in classes. This program equips you with the tools you’ll need to thrive. SOAR allows you to gain a better understanding of campus life, engage with your academic advisor and connect with fellow students, ensuring a smooth transition to becoming a Georgia Southern Eagle.

NOTE: Dual Enrollment students have specialized orientation requirements and SOAR is not required for readmit, transient, and post-baccalaureate students.

SOAR Session Dates, Times and Registration Fees

Students are required to complete a series of asynchronous Online Orientation Modules to satisfy their SOAR requirement and register for classes.

SOAR Requirements

Transfer and Adult students are not required to attend a “live” SOAR session. These student types will be required to complete a series of asynchronous Online Orientation modules to satisfy their SOAR requirement and register for classes. Please review the timeline below for more information.

Transfer/Adult SOAR Timeline

  • November 3, 2025 – Fall 2026 SOAR registration opens for students admitted for this term. Students should complete the registration and pay the SOAR commitment fee to gain access to next steps.
  • Upon SOAR Reservation – Complete the Advising Questionnaire located in your Status Portal. Your advisor will use your responses to build your course schedule.
  • June 1, 2026 – Fall 2026 Online Orientation modules become available for those that have registered and paid the SOAR commitment fee. These modules are required to be completed in their entirety to retain class schedule.
  • August 1, 2026 – Deadline to complete Online Orientation modules. Students accepted after July 15, 2026 will have until the first day of classes to complete these modules.

    • Includes: Access to virtual modules, Student materials including Georgia Southern t-shirt mailed to your home, trained staff to assist in your transition

Liberty Campus Transfer/Adult Students will have the option to attend an in-person SOAR session if they choose.

SOAR Registration Fees

In-Person/On-Campus:

  • Student – $60
    • Includes: Student materials including a bag with Georgia Southern swag, trained staff to assist in your transition, snack break, print materials, and other items.
  • Guest (max of 2) – $10 each
    • Includes: Guest materials and bag, trained staff to assist in your transition, snack break, print materials, and other items.

Online Orientation Modules:

  • Student – $60

Your Commitment

Fully Online students are not required to attend a formal SOAR orientation event. Instead, you are required to complete the SOAR Commitment Form via your Status Portal and complete a series of Online Orientation Modules to enroll.

Important Additional Instructions for Fully Online Students

  • Complete the SOAR Commitment Form through your Status Portal to gain access to your Enrollment Portal.
  • Complete the Advising Questionnaire upon completion of the SOAR Commitment Form. Your advisor will use your responses to build your course schedule.
  • Submit the FAFSA – If you want to be considered for federal or state student aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  • Complete the Online Orientation Modules which will become available to Fall 2026 students on June 1, 2026.

Commitment Fees

  • Student – $60
    • Includes: Virtual platform, Georgia Southern swag mailed home, and trained staff to assist your transition.
