Visit the ICPS
The Institute for Coastal Plain Science welcomes dozens of visitors each year, and the U.S. National Tick Collection has a long tradition of accommodating national and international researchers for more or less extended periods of time. The collection is accessible and made available to visitors, as are our laboratories.
Directions to the ICPS
From I-16 from Savannah
On I-16, take the Statesboro/Highway 16 exit (No. 127) and turn right onto GA-67 (turns into Fair Road). Travel approximately 12 miles. Turn left onto Herty Dr. (If you reach the Arby’s/Food World shopping center on the right, you’ve gone too far). There are 2 areas where visitor’s can park:
1. (Back Parking) Once on Herty Dr., take the 1st left – Dorman Dr. At the stop sign, turn right and you will see the visitor’s parking area on the right side towards the front.
2. (Front Parking) Once on Herty Dr., go past the 1st road on the left (Dorman Dr.) and immediately turn left into the small shaded parking lot area. This area will be behind an old house structure. There will be 3-4 visitor’s spaces available in this area.
From I-16 from Macon/Atlanta
On I-16, take Highway 301 exit (no. 116). Turn left onto Highway 301 traveling north to Statesboro (approximately 11 miles). Pass the main University entrance at Southern Drive and Turn right onto Tillman Rd. Go to the first light and turn right onto Fair Rd. Take the first right onto Herty Dr. There are 2 areas where visitor’s can park:
1. (Back Parking) Once on Herty Dr., take the 1st left – Dorman Dr. At the stop sign, turn right and you will see the visitor’s parking area on the right side towards the front.
2. (Front Parking) Once on Herty Dr., go past the 1st road on the left (Dorman Dr.) and immediately turn left into the small shaded parking lot area. This area will be behind an old house structure. There will be 3-4 visitor’s spaces available in this area.
Building Instructions to the U.S. National Tick Collection
From the front parking area, walk to the white building located to the right (facing the tree area) of the shaded parking area. Go through the main doors and follow to the left of the Planetarium (center structure in the hallway). Go to the elevators and go down to “G” floor. Once on the floor, go down the right hallway and you will see the collection area.
From the back parking area, walk to the very first building you drove past at the stop sign before coming into the parking lot. Go through the first floor front doors and go left. Signs will direct you to the collection space.
ICPS main office area
From the front parking area, go towards the front of the house structure and follow the pathway to the right. Go to the Natural Sciences building (blue sign will be out front) and go through the center double doors. The 1104 main office area will be on the left inside the building. If lost, look for the Herty Building – we are directly across from it.
From the back parking area, walk towards the Russell Union building in the front. From there, turn right towards the new Oliver Park and follow the pathway to the Natural Sciences building on the right (blue sign will be out front) and go through the center double doors. The 1104 main office area will be on the left inside the building. If lost, look for the Herty Building – we are directly across from it.
