ReusePass To Go Containers

Help us go zero-waste by joining the Eagle Dining ReusePass reusable to-go program. This free borrow and return program for reusable containers is now available on campus! ReusePass helps support our sustainability efforts and reduces waste from our dining program by using reusable containers for to-go orders.

How It Works

  • Enrollment: All Access+ dining plan holders are automatically enrolled in the ReusePass program and have access to Sustain Southern containers for to-go meals. Our NSF Certified, American-Made containers are provided through a partnership with Eagle Dining and Sustain Southern.
  • Pick Up: Retrieve your first reusable container at the cashier stand of any residential dining hall (Dining Commons, Lakeside, The Galley).
  • Use: Fill your container with your meal selections and take it with you to enjoy.
  • Return & Exchange: Rinse your empty container and return it to a cashier or designated return location to receive a new one.
  • One Meal Per Day: You may use ReusePass for one meal per day. While you can return a container on the same day, you may not receive another meal in a reusable container until the next day.
  • Clean Containers Only: Dining staff will turn away any user attempting to get food in a soiled container.
  • Non-Transferable: ReusePass privileges cannot be shared with another dining plan user.
  • Returning Containers: Containers must be returned in three (3) days before they are considered lost.
  • Replacement Fee: Lost containers will result in an $8 replacement fee. All containers must be returned at the end of the semester.
  • Misuse of the program may result in loss of privileges.

  • Consume Food Promptly: Food taken out should be consumed or refrigerated within two hours. Any refrigerated leftovers should be eaten or discarded within three days.
  • Discard Unsafe Food: If food has been in the Temperature Danger Zone for more than four hours, it must be discarded—even if reheated.
  • Reheating Guidelines: Reheated food must reach at least 165°F. Food should only be reheated once before being discarded.

Why Reuse?

Reduce Waste

95% of plastics don’t get recycled–even if you throw them in the blue bin! Instead, most single-use plastics end up in our oceans and landfills and bodies. Each time you choose to reuse, one less container goes to landfill.

Avoid Emissions

The production of single-use containers, even compostable ones, is a resource- intensive process. Each time you reuse, one less container needs to be manufactured, shipped overseas, and delivered to your campus.

Save Water

Yes, reuse requires washing. However, this sanitization process uses less water than is required for the production of a new single-use container.

ReusePass Impact

As a member of the ReusePass community, your daily habits add up to create real environmental change. Our participating campuses made a HUGE impact Fall 2023 – Spring 2024:

  • Diverting nearly 1.3 million containers from landfills
  • Saved 123,411 lbs of waste
  • Saved 824,716 gallons of water
  • Saved 857,480 lbs GHG Co2e
