The Faculty Center at Georgia Southern University provides confidential teaching observation services to support instructional effectiveness and student success. Our expert staff offers personalized feedback on teaching strategies, course design, and classroom delivery—helping faculty enhance their teaching practices across in-person, synchronous, and online formats.
For in-person or synchronous classes, instructors are asked to complete a pre-observation worksheet. This is not required for asynchronous online courses.
Whether you’re looking to refine your teaching style or strengthen your portfolio, the Faculty Center is here to help you grow.
Mid-Semester Student Feedback
Teaching observations often include mid-semester student feedback for a comprehensive view of instructional performance. Faculty may use observation reports for self-reflection or include them in teaching portfolios to demonstrate professional growth.
End-of-course evaluations provide valuable insight into how students experienced your course, but they come too late for you to make any changes based on that feedback. Mid-semester student feedback is a type of formative assessment that allows you to make teaching adjustments based on students’ comments about how well they are learning in your course.
Soliciting student feedback communicates that you care about the quality of your teaching and about your students’ learning. Studies indicate that mid-semester student feedback has the potential to yield higher end-of-course evaluations.
Scheduling
Student feedback sessions can be scheduled between Weeks 5 and 10 of the semester. We conduct student feedback sessions for traditional, blended, and online courses. Insights yielded from student feedback are most useful when paired with a teaching observation. Pairing a student feedback session with an observation provides a more comprehensive view of your course and helps us offer more-informed suggestions.
Anonymity
Student responses on mid-semester feedback are anonymous. The report generated from that feedback is confidential between you and your consultant. However, many instructors choose to include these reports in tenure and promotion or annual review portfolios as evidence of dedication to continuous improvement of their teaching.

Peer Observations
Peer observations of teaching are a collaborative and reflective practice where educators observe each other’s teaching methods and classroom interactions. This process fosters professional growth, enhances teaching strategies, and promotes a culture of continuous improvement. By engaging in peer observations, teachers can gain valuable insights, share best practices, and support each other in creating effective learning environments. The following three documents are designed to assist in the Peer observation process:
