May 22, 2025: Next Steps for the Georgia Southern & East Georgia State College Consolidation

Consolidation Action Teams

With the initial approval from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, East Georgia State College and Georgia Southern University are moving forward with the critical process of consolidation to form a single, unified University that builds upon the strengths, traditions and missions of both institutions.

An essential first step in this process is the formation of the Consolidation Action Teams, which will provide valuable insight on how the new University will function in every area and will make recommendations on actions to be taken. Georgia Southern and East Georgia State College leaders will work with Student Government Association (SGA) leadership throughout the process and will keep students informed along the way. Other faculty and staff will be invited to join meetings specific to their areas of expertise as needed.

Approximately 124 faculty, staff, and administrators from both institutions will serve on a Consolidation Action Team. The Georgia Southern University President’s Cabinet will review and approve recommendations in consultation with East Georgia State College’s President’s Cabinet. The Consolidation Action Teams received their charge on May 1, 2025.
