Celebrate 20 years of Speaking and Sharing SoTL Scholarship at our special 2027 SoTL Commons Conference. With iconic keynote speakers, Pat Hutchings, Dan Bernstein and Randy Bass, we’ll reflect on the past 20 years of the establishment of SoTL and we’ll look forward to the possibilities for the next 20 years of SoTL.

Randy Bass

Randy Bass is Vice President for Strategic Education Initiatives and Professor of English at Georgetown University, where he leads the Designing the Future(s) initiative and the Red House incubator for curricular transformation. He has been working at the intersections of university transformation, emerging technologies and the scholarship of teaching and learning for nearly thirty years.

Dan Bernstein

Daniel Bernstein, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Kansas, is a prominent SoTL scholar whose leadership roles—including directing the Peer Review of Teaching Project (1995–2002) and serving as President of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning—have significantly shaped evidence‑based teaching practices in higher education.

Pat Hutchings

Pat Hutchings was a senior scholar and vice president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, working as part of the leadership team for the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Publications include Building the Teaching Commons (with Mary Taylor Huber, 2005), and The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Reconsidered: Institutional Integration and Impact (with co-authors Mary Taylor Huber and Anthony Cicone, 2011).
