
The Savannah metro economy’s growth continued, but slowed modestly during the second quarter of 2024, as reported in Georgia Southern University’s recently released Q2 2024 Economic Monitor.

Thirteen distinguished faculty members from Georgia Southern University were ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists. This list, published annually by Elsevier and Stanford University, recognizes the world’s top scientific researchers. The featured faculty are conducting cutting-edge research in disciplines ranging from glass science to crime prevention.

Georgia Southern University’s Institute for Health Logistics & Analytics (IHLA), University Libraries and the Georgia Southern Museum will host The Smithsonian Institution exhibition, “Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World,” on the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses. The exhibit will run through March 8, 2025, on the Statesboro Campus, and from March 10, 2025 through July 30, 2025 on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah. The National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Research Center (NYARRC) at Georgia Southern University has received a federal grant totaling $126,000 through the Community Services Board of Middle Georgia (CSBMG).

Georgia Southern University’s Institute for Health Logistics & Analytics (IHLA) recently completed mapping vital health resources for four Georgia counties through its new program Community Health Resource Project (CHRP). Similar initiatives in more than a dozen underserved Southeast Georgia counties will be in motion in 2025.

Georgia Southern faculty are making significant contributions to preserving Georgia’s rich history, which are being recognized by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC). Amy Potter, Ph.D., geography professor at Georgia Southern University, and Lisa Denmark, Ph.D., history professor also at Georgia Southern, were honored with awards from GHRAC for their work on separate historical projects.


Georgia Southern University’s Waters College of Health Professions (WCHP) will host the Norman Fries Distinguished Lecture Series with keynote speaker Don L. Waters on Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture, titled “A Native Son’s Vision for Southeast Georgia,” will be held at the Statesboro Campus Performing Arts Center.

Celebrate: Together, a festival celebrating the Georgia Southern community at the Armstrong Campus, is back this year on October 24, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., in the Residential Plaza.

Georgia Southern University’s Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing has received a commitment of $500,000. The donation is a gift from Smith Douglas Homes in Atlanta, Georgia, that will be used to support additional faculty, provide scholarships and support equipment and supplies needed to educate students in residential construction.
