Accounting Services is responsible for accumulating and providing reliable and comparable data as to the fiscal affairs of the University within the guidelines established by the University, Board of Regents, State of Georgia, and other Federal and State agencies, including the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The Financial Accounting Department provides services to support the overall mission of the Division of Financial & Business Services and the overall mission of the University responding to the needs of students, faculty, and staff, by providing efficient and accurate data in order to manage the financial resources available.
Agency Fund Accounts
The request to establish an agency fund account form should be completed and returned to the Director of Financial Accounting, P O Box 8129. The Director of Financial Accounting shall review the request and notify the requestor of approval or denial of the request.
Agency funds are moneys held by Georgia Southern University as custodian or fiscal agent for on outside agency. The funds belong to an outside agency and Georgia Southern provides accounting and other services for that agency. Agency funds shall not be used to hold moneys for instructional activities (workshops, conferences, field trips, etc.), for profit making activities, or payroll.
This form can be filled out on-line and then printed.
Sales and Services
If a department at Georgia Southern University has projects that involve the sale of tangible items
or the sale of services, the department should contact the Financial Accounting for approval of these
sales. These sales would need to be reviewed for sales tax and unrelated business income tax
consideration. Auxiliary Services is the only division on campus that is a profit making division
and must approve any profit making activities not operated by their units. Revenue and expenses
for all other units on campus must be equal at the end of the fiscal year.
