What is Respondus LockDown Browser?

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment in Folio. When students use the LockDown Browser to access a quiz, they are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading.
How Respondus LockDown Browser Works
- Assessments are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized
- Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh, and Stop
- Prevents access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and remote desktops
- Printing and screen capture functions are disabled
- Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented
- Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts, and task switching are disabled
- An assessment cannot be exited until the student submits it for grading
- Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other browsers

Resources for Students
Students have access to Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor through Folio.
Quizzes requiring LockDown Browser or Monitor will be indicated within the title of the quiz.
Using a Chromebook?
To install the LockDown Extension to a personal Chromebook, students must use the regular LockDown Browser installation link for Georgia Southern University. You will NOT be able to search for the app directly from the Chrome web store.
The LockDown Browser installation link will direct students to the Chrome web store, at which point they should select “Add to Chrome” to install the LockDown Browser Extension.
Using an iPad?
If you are using an iPad to take a quiz through Folio that has Respondus Lockdown Browser enabled, please make sure your instructor knows. Monitor + Screen Record is not compatible with iPads, so alternative arrangements will need to be made for exams that require the screen record component.
To install the Lockdown Browser on your iPad, you will need to download the app and connect it to Georgia Southern University.
Using a Chromebook
- Make sure you have installed the LockDown Browser Chrome Extension
- Cannot move past the “start quiz” page
