Physical Wellbeing

Why is Physical Wellbeing Important?

Your Physical Wellbeing is important for optimal health and functioning. There are many elements of your physical wellbeing that all must be cared for together. Physical activity and exercise, nutrition, and prevention of illness, and management of illness all play a role in your body’s ability to function optimally. Through the promotion of nutrition, exercise, and strategies for prevention, Student Wellness & Health Promotion hopes to help you nurture personal responsibility for your own Physical Wellbeing.

Nutrition

One of the most important decisions you make each day is choosing which foods to eat. Whole, nutrient-dense foods are a necessary part of a healthy lifestyle. In addition, how you eat has an impact on wellbeing. Eat well to live longer, prevent disease and maintain a healthy weight.

MyPlate is the current nutrition guide published by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. This model replaced the USDA’s MyPyramid guide on June 2, 2011.

Choosing smaller portions can help you stay within your calories needs. Be aware of the amount of what you eat and drink during meals and snacks. Some commonly eaten foods can provide more calories than we realize. You can cut down on calories by choosing a smaller portion. For example, a large order of fries can contain over 500 calories, but a small order only half of that amount.
