Balancing duty, motherhood and dreams: How an Eagle student found her path

Jessica Armstrong, a Georgia Southern University graduate and Army veteran, has pursued her passion for helping others through a career path combining her military background and aspirations in law. Driven by a desire to advocate for soldiers navigating legal and disciplinary challenges, Armstrong plans to attend law school to specialize in military law while balancing her roles as a mother and community supporter.

Georgia Southern student awarded military family scholarship

Thanks to her school work, impact on the community and the trials she’s overcome in her personal life, Brown was awarded a $9,000 Robert S. Haywood Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students attending Georgia Southern who have or had parents who served in the military.

For 12 years in a row, Georgia Southern University has been designated a Military Friendly® school by VIQTORY Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs, STEM Jobs and Military Spouse magazines. This year, Georgia Southern also garnered a Military Spouse Friendly Schools Gold-level designation in the large public school category.

6 military spouses awarded scholarships from Georgia Southern University and supporters

Georgia Southern awarded nearly $20,000 in scholarships to military spouses pursuing college degrees for the fall 2023 semester. This furthers the University’s commitment to supporting military families and indicates a remarkable step forward with the scholarship program for military spouses.

Georgia Southern University named a finalist for Student Veterans of America ‘Chapter of the Year’ Award

Georgia Southern University was selected as a finalist for the Chapter of the Year awarded by Student Veterans of America (SVA), an organization focused on advocating for and advancing resources for veterans in higher education.

The University has SVA chapters on the Statesboro Campus and Armstrong Campus in Savannah, both of which were recognized with the award.

For the 10th year in a row, Georgia Southern University has been named a Military Friendly school by Viqtory Media, earning a gold-level distinction in the large public school category for 2021-22. The University has also been named a Military Friendly Spouse School.
