Georgia Southern grad student recognized by American Society of Civil Engineers
Georgia Southern civil engineering graduate student Mariah Peart has been selected by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as one of 10 New Faces Of Civil Engineering for 2019 — Professional Edition. Engineering professor Gustavo Maldonado, Ph.D., said it’s the first time a Georgia Southern student has received this recognition.
Open House highlights Georgia Southern, Savannah State partnership
To provide unprecedented educational opportunities for the region, Georgia Southern University and Savannah State University (SSU) will host a joint open house on Georgia Southern’s Liberty Campus in Hinesville on Feb. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Military members and their families, and other prospective students, will have the chance to learn more about career-enhancing programs where they live and work. During the event, SSU President Cheryl Davenport Dozier, and Georgia Southern Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Carl L. Reiber will discuss the universities’ strategic partnership and share more about the importance of making these programs available to prospective students.
Georgia Southern invites community to participate in Strategic Planning process through February events
Georgia Southern University is creating a new Strategic Plan for the University with the help of community members, students, faculty and staff. The University wants to receive community input that will help define the goals and priorities for the institution through seven facilitated Strategic Planning Town Hall events in Hinesville, Statesboro and Savannah.

Georgia Southern University’s latest Economic Monitor, which analyzes Q3 2018 data and identifies trends affecting the regional economy, reports signs of weakness are emerging more clearly in Savannah’s three-county metro economy. Electricity sales and boardings at the airport lifted the economic index, while port activity remained strong and unemployment faded.
Georgia Southern research focus prompts R2 Carnegie designation
Georgia Southern University is now ranked as an “R2” high research institution, placing it in the top 6% of all institutions ranked by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The “R2” designation, the second-highest classification for research institutions, was unveiled this week.

Prospective and former undergraduate students who want to attend Georgia Southern University for the spring semester have a unique opportunity to start now through events designed to fast-track the admission process.
START NOW events provide unprecedented access to the University through same-day admission decisions, access to Financial Aid counselors while waiting for an admission decision, and academic advising if admitted. Some students may need to take a college placement exam prior to receiving a decision and can do so on-site that day.
