31st annual National Youth-At-Risk Conference to be held in Savannah
The Georgia Southern University College of Education is hosting the National Youth-At-Risk Conference March 8 through 11 at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah. The conference will include keynote presentations from Marcia Tate, Ed.D., former executive director of professional development for the DeKalb County School System; Ron Clark, author and founder of the Ron Clark Academy; and Laura Reiffel, Ph.D., director of Behavior Doctor Seminars, which serves as a resource center for educators. There will also be a musical performance by local middle school students, introductions by State Superintendent Richard Woods, a meet-and-greet poster presentation, and a poverty simulation. Two Georgia Southern faculty appointed to editorial board of new interdisciplinary focused international journal
Patsy Kraeger, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Public and Nonprofit Studies at Georgia Southern University has been named the founding special issues editor of Local Development and Society, a new refereed journal being launched by the Community Development Society International and Taylor and Francis Publications. An editorial board of international scholars and practitioners is being assembled, including Candice Bodkin, Ph.D., who is also an assistant professor in the Department of Public and Nonprofit Studies. Georgia Southern to host Sexual Assault Awareness Week on Statesboro Campus Feb. 24-28
The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and Sexual Assault Student Educators at Georgia Southern are working together with the University’s Counseling Center, Student Wellness and Health Promotion and the Office of Public Safety to help raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence while educating the campus community through Sexual Assault Awareness Week on the Statesboro Campus Feb. 24 through 28.

Piano in the Arts presents season-ending concert on Georgia Southern’s Armstrong Campus
Georgia Southern University’s Piano in the Arts presents “Showtunes and Classics,” March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Armstrong Campus. Admission to the concert is $15 with discounts available for military, seniors and children. Georgia Southern students, faculty and staff are admitted free with their Eagle ID.

Arbor Day annual celebration helps to make Georgia Southern greener
Georgia Southern’s Center for Sustainability (CfS) and Division of Facilities Services hosted a celebration honoring Georgia Arbor Day on the Statesboro Campus by planting trees on historic Sweetheart Circle. Students, CfS staff and campus volunteers teamed up to plant 25 containerized trees on Sweetheart Circle and Southern Drive and 650 seedlings around campus.

Faculty in Georgia Southern University’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health have secured a $248,000, two-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation’s largest philanthropy dedicated solely to health.

‘Godspell’ next up in Main Stage Series at Performing Arts Center
Broadway favorite “Godspell” will be presented by Georgia Southern University’s Theatre and Performance program and the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on the Statesboro Campus Feb. 27 through March 1. The musical is a part of the PAC’s 2019-2020 Main Stage Series.
