Georgia Southern University’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Department of Political Science and International Studies will co-host a pair of lectures on immigration detention and human rights defenders, respectively, on Aug. 18.

Georgia Southern University faculty and staff members gathered together Wednesday morning at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center to gear up for the fall semester during the University’s annual Fall Convocation.

Georgia Southern engineering professors have received more than $524,000 from the National Science Foundation. The grant will enable them to bring cutting-edge renewable energy research into the high school and tech school classrooms of high-need rural areas in Georgia.

Today, Georgia Southern University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Jean Bartels, Ph.D., R.N., was presented with a Patriot Award by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office. The award is given to supervisors who have been nominated by an employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member for their efforts to support citizen warriors
The Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation’s main fundraising arm, the Eagle Fund, which is the Foundation’s annual fund that directly benefits student-scholarships, grew more than 25% from the previous fiscal year.

The Georgia Southern Chorale and the Southern Gentlemen won in competition at the “Laurea Mundi Budapest” Festival of Choral Music, held in Budapest, Hungary, July 9-13.

The Georgia Southern University School of Accountancy will host the second annual Essentials of Fraud and Forensic Accounting seminar Aug. 1 – 4, 2016, in the University’s College of Business.

More than 100 elementary and secondary school teachers from around the country participated in a four-week training session as part of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) summer core training, conducted by Georgia Southern’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.
