
Georgia Southern University has partnered with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Yamaha Rightwaters to rejuvenate a section of the Savannah waterways for oyster beds. As part of these efforts, Eagle faculty and students recently installed bags of oyster shells along the coastline to build shelters for budding populations.

On Oct. 2, the University will host candidates for mayor and city council districts 5 and 6 at 6 p.m. On Oct. 4, the same auditorium will host candidates for city council districts 2, 3 and 4 and the city council at-large seats at 6 p.m.

Celebrate: Together, a festival that celebrates the Georgia Southern University community on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, will return this year on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Residential Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.

An interdisciplinary team from Georgia Southern University was awarded more than $465,000 from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to foster the development of scientific and environmental skills that are critical to solving complex issues in the Gulf of Mexico region now and into the future. The award is part of an initiative with the Gulf Research Program that awarded $2 million to eight projects that engage children and youth in place-based educational activities.

Georgia Southern University President Kyle Marrero delivered a State of the University Fall 2023 address to faculty and staff in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Armstrong Campus on Sept. 5 and in the Performing Arts Center on the Statesboro Campus on Sept. 7.

To that end, Georgia Southern University Libraries will celebrate the grand opening of its Patent and Trademark Resource Centerwith ribbon-cutting events at the Armstrong Center in Savannah on Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. and at the Henderson Library in Statesboro on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property Derrick Brent and Georgia Southern President Kyle Marrero, will attend the ribbon-cutting in Savannah.

Georgia Southern University is gearing up to celebrate Constitution Day on Sept. 18 on the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses, during its annual event that delves deep into the heart of American democracy. This event aims to shed light on the Constitution’s significance in American society and government, emphasizing both our rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Georgia Southern University’s Business Innovation Group (BIG) in partnership with the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority and The Creative Coast will host the inaugural BIG Expo for Entrepreneurship & Innovation on Sept. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at “The Alley,” located at 58 E. Main Street in downtown Statesboro, Georgia.
