Graduate Assistant Placement Program

The Division of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Master’s of Education in Higher Education Administration graduate program, will be hosting the 5th annual Graduate Assistantship Placement Program (GAPP) Interview Days in Spring 2026.

GAPP helps recruit and match prospective graduate students interested in a career in higher education, student personnel services, student development, or a closely related field with the multitude of departments from the Division of Student Affairs and other departments across the university that hire for graduate assistant positions in student facing type environments. GAPP is dedicated to the personal and professional growth of future higher education professionals and other participants who desire to work in dynamic environments centered around student affairs/student services. Review the content below to get more acquainted with the GAPP experience, how to register, and what to expect!

The GAPP Experience

GAPP Interview Days allow for candidates being offered an interview to choose the format that works best for them, either via Zoom or in person at either of our campuses in Statesboro or Savannah. This approach accommodates students who may not be able to travel and accommodate those who can. Hiring departments who are participating will screen all applications and determine which candidates they would like to schedule an interview with. Candidates will be notified about which departments are interested in setting up an interview during Interview Days.

Other elements of the GAPP experience include:

  • After Interviews Days are complete, both hiring departments and candidates submit rankings/preferences. GAPP is a matching process in which interviewed candidates are matched with a department/position that also chose them. Aligning the best fit based on the candidate desires and the department needs is priority.  Candidates who are offered an assistantship will only receive one offer.
  • It is possible for a candidate who interviewed to not receive an offer. Preferences with a candidate and the preferences of the hiring departments they interviewed with.
  • Candidates are highly encouraged to give their best on every interview and convey to hiring departments their passion and interest in the position and the hiring department.
  • The Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies requires that graduate students be fully admitted into a graduate program prior to receiving employment/assistantship offers.

Students who register for for GAPP will be initially screened by all participating hiring departments to ensure a close match between the position description, hiring department needs, and a candidate’s previous/current work experiences/career goals. Students will be informed about whether or not they are receiving an interviews from participating departments as soon as possible prior to the start of Interview Days
