Georgia Southern’s new Advanced Processing Research Network launched with $1 million gift from Crider, Inc.
Georgia Southern’s Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing received a $1 million gift to develop the Advanced Processing Research Network (APRN) from Crider, Inc. of Stillmore, Georgia, a global processor of shelf-stable and fully cooked protein products.
College of Engineering and Computing extends research experience application deadline
The Georgia Southern University College of Engineering and Computing has extended the application window for the summer 2021 Research Experience for Undergraduates program “Propulsion, Aerodynamics, Materials and Controls of Aerial Vehicles.”
Due to overwhelming demand, the application process will remain open until March 15 to give all interested students an opportunity to apply. Applications are accepted from undergraduates across the United States who are interested in an opportunity to engage with and work side by side on real-world research in state-of-the-art engineering labs. Special consideration will be given to students who are currently enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, tribal colleges, and community colleges where research opportunities may not be available.

Camille Phillips has an aptitude for math, especially calculus. She first discovered her passion for complex applications when she was in high school. Encouraged by her high school calculus teacher to study engineering in college, Phillips gave it a try. This week, she will walk across the commencement stage at Georgia Southern University for her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Georgia Southern University Engineering Design Challenge (EDC) 2020: Eagle — Remotely Operated Aerial Reconnaissance (ROAR) was moved to November 7 and will be presented virtually through Zoom at 1 p.m. It will also be recorded for future viewing.

On Sept. 24, Frank Katz, director of the Center for Applied Cyber Education at Georgia Southern, will represent the University at Jack Voltaic 3.0, the first all-virtual cyber exercise hosted by the Army Cyber Institute. The exercise will simulate a cyber attack in Savannah, and Katz will observe the participants’ decisions during the attack to help better educate his cyber security students on what to do in similar scenarios.
