Six new members recently joined Georgia Southern University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors. Founded in 1933, Georgia Southern’s Alumni Association’s Board of Directors is made up of alumni volunteers who are leaders in their communities and who have given tirelessly of their time in order to promote Georgia Southern.

Georgia Southern faculty receive $424,000 grants to advance cancer treatments
Karelle Aiken, Ph.D., and Jannet Kocerha, Ph.D., are using a $424,000 grant to pursue new cancer drug treatments. The goal is to overcome various barriers that impact the effectiveness of cancer therapeutics by exploiting a cancer cell’s dependency on unusually high levels of amino acids nutrients.

On July 1, the College of Science and Mathematics at Georgia Southern University will launch a new School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability. The SEES will bring together the geosciences program and the James H. Oliver, Jr., Institute for Coastal Plain Science.

Georgia Southern University built eco-friendly statues for World Oceans Day

Georgia Southern University announces Fulbright US Scholar Award for 2023-2024
A noted Georgia Southern University public health professor has earned a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in All Disciplines to Latvia for the 2023-2024 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Yelena N. Tarasenko, DrPH, is a professor at the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmental Health Sciences at Georgia Southern’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health. Her Fulbright project is titled “Strengthening research and teaching capacity in cancer prevention globally.”
