The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Excellence Awards has included two of the University’s collaborative projects, The Eagle Experience and the student-initiated Period Equity Movement, in its 2022-2023 list of winners.

Alejandra “Ale” Sosa Pieroni currently serves as a vice president for Ruffalo Noel Levitz, working with colleges and universities across the country to help them optimize their marketing, admissions, financial aid and student success practices. She will bring that expertise to Georgia Southern to lead a single unit combining the areas of Enrollment Management, University Communications and Marketing, Advising, and Student Services.

Georgia Southern investing $1.2 million to upgrade campus security cameras

Georgia Southern University is planning a major upgrade to its campus security cameras and video technology.

With approximately $1.2 million budgeted, the University will upgrade the cameras in the resident halls and other buildings in Statesboro, Savannah and Hinesville to bring the current cameras from analog to a digital platform. Additionally, new cameras will be placed at entrances to our campuses that can tie into those from other law enforcement agencies. The end result will be an interconnected network of cameras across the region.

Georgia Southern University is launching a new Bachelor of Science in software engineering this fall, making it the only such degree offered by a public university in Georgia outside of Atlanta.

Georgia Southern partners with Bulloch County high schools, introduces public health pathway for students

Beginning in fall 2023, a public health pathway will be offered to high school students in Bulloch County. This three-course pathway will introduce students to the broad topic of health care. The first two courses, Introduction to Healthcare Science and Essentials of Healthcare, are currently offered to high school students in the county. The new course, Applications of Public Health, will introduce students to the knowledge and skills needed for a career in public health.
