University Gears Up for 2nd Annual STEM Fest

Georgia Southern University is gearing up for its 2nd annual science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) festival this Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center, 847 Plant Drive. The festival will feature presentations by the Institute for Interdisciplinary STEM Education at Georgia Southern, NASA and the U.S. Army.

University Partners with Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau to Present “Museum On Main”

The Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau will open in its new location at 222 South Main Street on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and a large part of the new facility will feature “Museum on Main,” an exhibit highlighting significant pieces of Bulloch County and Statesboro’s history. A 1920s turpentine wagon, originally purchased from W.C. Akins & Sons Hardware on East Main Street in Statesboro, will be the iconic artifact and permanent installation of the new exhibit.

New York Times Bestselling Author to Present Fries Lecture at Georgia Southern University

Georgia Southern University will host Susan Orlean, The New York Times bestselling author and staff writer for the New Yorker, as the 2014 Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series speaker on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center, 847 Plant Drive. Her presentation titled “Learning By the Book: A Writer Explores the World of Libraries,” is free and open to the public.

Moth Project to Attract ‘Second-Shift Pollinators’ on Campus

“This visually stunning project acts as the stage for a public art experience, cross-pollinating various disciplines, and further expanding an understanding of and appreciation for moths and other nighttime pollinators that are vital to the area,” said Georgia Southern Professor Jeff Schumki.

‘One More Time’ Recyclable Clothing to Make its On-campus Debut at ’Boro Browse and the Student Org Fair

The new on-campus recycling initiative, ‘One More Time’, with Renew Merchandise and the Center for Sustainability (CfS) will make its debut on campus at ’Boro Browse and the Student Org Fair, Aug. 26 and 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Russell Union Rotunda. Named one of the top green universities in the country by The Princeton Review for the past four years, Georgia Southern will deepen its commitment to sustainability even further through this partnership with Renew Merchandise.

The College of Business Administration at Georgia Southern University together with accounting firm Porter Keadle Moore (PKM) will host the 2014 Fraud & Forensic Accounting Education Conference May 15 and 16 in Savannah, Georgia.
