
Georgia Southern University’s Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter received a 2020-21 Superior Merit designation from the national SHRM organization for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student members.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education has granted Georgia Southern University’s School of Nursing a 10-year accreditation extension for its baccalaureate program and graduate programs including Chronic Care Management, Nursing Education and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

Double Eagle Christina Cook (’13,’19) has assisted Nandi Marshall, DrPH, associate professor in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health and associate dean of Academic Affairs, on the groundbreaking Savannah H.O.P.E. Photovoice Project, a visual, community-based research project that helps identify social, cultural and physical barriers that Black mothers in Chatham County face while breastfeeding. On July 1, Sharon Subreenduth, Ph.D., took the reins as the new Dean of the College of Education at Georgia Southern University.

John Banter, Ed.D., associate director of the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement, recently won the Robin Orr Outstanding Practitioner Award from the Association of Leadership Educators (ALE). Given annually during the ALE national conference, this award recognizes a distinguished practitioner for their significant accomplishments and contributions to leadership education and related fields. The award is named in memory of Robin Orr, a longtime member and past president of the ALE.

Officers in the Georgia Southern University Police Department (UPD) now have more options for improving police interactions with individuals impacted by communication disorders thanks to graduate students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program in the Waters College of Health Professions.
The Center for STEM Education (i2STEMed) is the new moniker for the College of Education’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education outreach unit. Previously known as the Institute for Interdisciplinary STEM Education (i2STEMe), the Center has expanded partnerships over the last nine years to include local, state and international organizations.
