A new agreement between Georgia Southern University and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, located in Tifton, Georgia, will help students earn graduate degrees in public health and strengthen the state’s health care workforce.

Juneteenth, a commemoration of the end of slavery in the U.S., is a day to celebrate freedom — and a time to dream, says one Georgia Southern University professor.

Georgia Southern University history professor Kathleen Comerford, Ph.D., turned to an unlikely source for her students’ research projects after access to primary sources was limited during the COVID-19 pandemic. The students were tasked with writing Wikipedia articles as their projects, which changed the way the students and Comerford looked at Wikipedia’s usefulness in higher education.

The sand dunes of Tybee Island have taken a beating in recent hurricane seasons. Georgia Southern University biology graduate student Shannon Matzke is researching ways to combat the destruction of the dunes for her restoration project by collecting data on the effects of various planting techniques to see which technique best increases the longevity of the dunes.
