
Eleven students in Georgia Southern University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program were awarded scholarships totaling more than $16,000 from the Savannah American Business Club (AMBUCS) for volunteer work with the organization.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Southeast Chapter has recognized Georgia Southern University’s Multimedia Development Center (MDC) with three professional Emmy® nominations. “Georgia Southern Robots” and “The Eagle has Landed” both received a nomination in the Spanish language category. MDC Director Art Berger, Brianna Womack, Collin Crews, Ben Powell and Doug Thompson were nominated for the two short news features. Berger was also nominated for best director in the short form content category.

Urkovia Andrews, DrPH., assistant director for service-learning in the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement (OLCE), recently won the 2021 National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) Outstanding Experiential Education Research award. The award recognizes Andrews’ published research that makes important contributions to the understanding of experiential education.

Faculty in the Waters College of Health Professions Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology have been awarded a nearly $30,000 grant to adopt and or create low- and no-cost course materials for human anatomy and physiology (HAP) laboratory courses at Georgia Southern University.

This week, approximately 4,200 undergraduate and graduate students from Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro, Armstrong and Liberty campuses received associate, baccalaureate, masters, specialist and doctoral degrees in six Spring 2021 Commencement ceremonies.

Born into a family of immigrant farm workers who settled down in Claxton, Georgia, Jasmine Guerra knew her options for a college education were limited. She also knew she’d face additional obstacles as a first-generation college student and first-generation U.S. citizen, but her desire to create a legacy for her family burned brightly.

The Collegiate 100 chapter of Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus in Savannah has been selected as chapter of the year by national parent organization 100 Black Men of America. The Armstrong chapter is one of two collegiate chapters to receive the selection out of the 70 collegiate chapters nationwide.

Georgia Southern University hosted its annual Gratitude Gala to recognize key donors for their longtime support of institutional initiatives. The event was held on May 1 at the Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah where honorees, which included one individual, one family and one corporation, were presented with awards.
