
Sustainability Programs at Georgia Southern University is teaming up with student organization Fashion Menagerie, a group of fashion merchandising and apparel design students, to fight fast fashion by hosting the first campus thrift store on the Statesboro Campus. Clothing donations are currently being accepted through March 26 at various locations around campus.

Georgia Southern University will host Nemata Blyden, Ph.D., history professor at George Washington University, for a virtual presentation on the relationship between African Americans and Africa from the era of slavery to the present. The presentation will be held March 31 at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom. Blyden will examine the diversity of African American identities through relationships with region, ethnicity, slavery and immigration to investigate questions fundamental to the study of African American history and culture. Health professionals looking to broaden their cultural competence and gain skills for their line of work can benefit from “Cultural Competence 101: The Health Perspective,” a course taught by Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health’s (JPHCOPH) Associate Professor Stacy Smallwood, Ph.D., via Zoom on March 26 from 9 to 11 a.m.

On April 1, producer and director Hal Jacobs will present an outdoor screening of his film, “Lillian Smith: Breaking the Silence,” on Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus. The screening, which will take place on the Residential Plaza, will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A session with Jacobs. The event is free and open to the public.

A strategic partnership between Georgia Southern University’s College of Education and the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has earned a top state accolade.

Georgia Southern University biology major Daria Stephens had never used a shovel until the 2021 Arbor Day Celebration on March 5, where she helped plant a tree near the Herty Pines Nature Preserve as part of her botany class. Stephens said the class inspired her to put what she is learning into action.

Enrollment Services, a central hub that is dedicated to helping students connect the dots when it comes to the enrollment process, now has two walk-up service centers at Georgia Southern University.
