
Georgia Southern University Theatre students on the Statesboro Campus will perform William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” directed by Sarah McCarroll, Ph.D., associate professor of theatre. The production will be available to stream March 10 through 14, and is free and open to the public.

The Georgia Southern University Academic Success Center has established the Barbara W. Bitter Scholarship, named after the former head of the Learning Support Department at Georgia Southern. Since 2006, students at Georgia Southern University have been going on weeklong, immersive, issue-focused service experiences known as alternative breaks. Throughout the Alternative Breaks Program’s 15 years, participants like student Caleb Parker have helped communities overcome challenges while bettering themselves in the process.
Georgia Southern has been elected to serve as the home institution to the Georgia Association of Historians (GAH), following a vote by the organization’s board. Lisa L. Denmark, Ph.D., associate professor of history, is the GAH Executive Secretary-Treasurer. The GAH serves as a statewide professional organization for the study of history. The group encourages and promotes historical research, preservation, record keeping, publication and high standards in the teaching of history. The Georgia Southern University College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) will host Thomas Patterson, Ph.D., Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at Harvard University, for the 2021 Mark Finlay Memorial Lecture. The virtual presentation will stream March 3 at 6 p.m. on the CAH Facebook page. The Southern Leaders Program at Georgia Southern University was named Outstanding Leadership Program of the Year by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ (NASPA) Student Leadership Programs Knowledge Community.

Georgia Southern University professor Matthew Hashiguchi’s film “Good Luck Soup,” is the feature of the 2021 Ogeechee International History Film Festival, the longest-running film festival of its kind in the world. “Good Luck Soup” and the other films in the festival will be available to stream through March 5.
