Georgia Southern’s Armstrong Campus hosts annual high school congressional competition exhibition

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school visual art contest to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation. In conjunction with the competition, the Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus will host “An Artistic Discovery,” showcasing competition entries from Georgia’s 1st Congressional District. The event is free and open to the public.

Student directed black box show ‘Bright Ideas’ comes to Armstrong Campus

Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus’ student-run theatre group, The Masquers are bringing dark comedy “Bright Ideas” to the Armstrong Campus for its final black box show of the season. The show will run from Thursday, Feb. 21 to Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre in Jenkins Hall.

Piano in the Arts brings trumpet, piano duo to Armstrong Campus

Georgia Southern University’s Piano in the Arts will present “Music of the Americas,” by Duo Trompiano, featuring trumpeter Douglas Lindsey, D.M.A., and pianist Judy Cole. The concert will be Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah.

Georgia Southern’s Armstrong Campus to host reading with acclaimed novelist Julianna Baggott

Critically acclaimed fiction writer, poet and essayist Julianna Baggott is coming to Savannah for Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Visiting Writers Series. Baggott will give a reading at Savannah Coffee Roasters on March 7 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Georgia Southern offers archaeological field school at Confederate POW camp

Georgia Southern University’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology will continue their spring and summer archaeological field schools held at Camp Lawton, a former Confederate prisoner of war (POW) camp, located in Magnolia Springs State Park The spring session of the field school will meet every Friday until May 3, and the summer session will meet Monday through Friday from May 20 through June 20.

Southern Leaders Program wins National Association of Student Personnel Administrators excellence award

Georgia Southern University’s Southern Leaders Program was recently selected as a gold level Excellence Award recipient from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). The team will be further judged for the designations of grand gold, grand silver and grand bronze.

Museum director to speak on groundbreaking philosopher on Statesboro, Armstrong campuses Feb. 11, 12

Michelle DiMeo, Ph.D., director of the Hagley Heritage Curators Program at the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware, is coming to Georgia Southern University to speak on the work of 17th-century English philosopher Katherine Jones, Lady Ranelagh  on Feb. 11 and 12. Both events are free and open to the public.

Georgia Southern to host free screening of “Bully,” Q&A with area experts to follow

On Tuesday, Feb. 12, Georgia Southern University College of Education will host a free screening of “Bully,” a film documenting the effects of bullying on school-aged students and their families. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in University Hall, room 156, located on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah.

Open House highlights Georgia Southern, Savannah State partnership

To provide unprecedented educational opportunities for the region, Georgia Southern University and Savannah State University (SSU) will host a joint open house on Georgia Southern’s Liberty Campus in Hinesville on Feb. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Military members and their families, and other prospective students, will have the chance to learn more about career-enhancing programs where they live and work. During the event, SSU President Cheryl Davenport Dozier, and Georgia Southern Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Carl L. Reiber will discuss the universities’ strategic partnership and share more about the importance of making these programs available to prospective students.
