Alumnae artists return to Statesboro to showcase works

Georgia Southern University’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art presents Structural Findings through Feb. 12 in the University Gallery of the Center for Art & Theatre. The exhibition includes an artist lecture Thursday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m. in the Visual Arts Building, room 2071, followed immediately by an artist reception in the gallery. The events are free and the public is welcome.

In the first bowl game in program history for Georgia Southern (9-4), quarterback Favian Upshaw ran for a career-high 199 yards and four touchdowns, and Georgia Southern scored 35 unanswered points and rushed for 452 yards to power past Bowling Green, 58-27, in the GoDaddy Bowl Wednesday night in Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Georgia Southern History Faculty and Museum Curators seek World War I Artifacts

Georgia Southern University’s Department of History and the Georgia Southern Museum seek to learn more about the impact of World War I on the state of Georgia and are asking for anyone with artifacts from that era to bring them on Jan. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m., to the Georgia Southern University Museum.

Tyson Summers Named Next Head Coach of Georgia Southern Football

Georgia Southern Interim President Jean Bartels, Ph.D., R.N., Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein and the Georgia Southern Board of Regents announced Sunday evening that Tyson Summers has formally accepted an offer to become Georgia Southern’s head football coach. He will be officially introduced at a press conference on Dec. 26 at the University.

Graduate students attend Art Basel Miami Beach; Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art van painted by Kenny Scharf

In early December, nine Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) graduate candidates from the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) drove to Miami, Florida, for Art Basel Miami Beach, a large international art fair that connects artists, gallerists and collectors from around the globe. They returned with a greater understanding of the art world, and a department van which is now itself a work of art.

College of Health and Human Sciences students embrace service opportunities

Eight Georgia Southern Sport Management students spent the University’s Thanksgiving break volunteering at the AdvoCare Invitational. Additionally, the School of Human Ecology Fashion Merchandizing and Apparel Design students spent Dec. 10 delivering shirts to children at the Statesboro Head Start.
