Exhibition highlights African-American artists from the South

Georgia Southern University’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) presents Celebrating African-American Artists, featuring work created by renowned African-American artists from the South. On display through July 29 in the Southern Folk Art Gallery of the Center for Art & Theatre, the exhibition includes a reception Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Center for Art & Theatre. The events are free and the public is welcome.

Pulitzer Prize winner Jose Antonio Vargas set to visit Georgia Southern

Pulitzer Prize winner Jose Antonio Vargas will visit Georgia Southern University to present “Immigration: Legality vs. Humanity” on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. in the University’s Performing Arts Center (PAC), 847 Plant Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Georgia Southern observes Stalking Awareness Month

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a crime that affects millions of victims each year throughout our nation. The theme ­– “Stalking: Know It. Name It. A new program for students at Georgia Southern University, the TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program, sponsored by the Federal Department of Education program, is now accepting applications. The program provides comprehensive services to first-generation college students, limited income students or students with disabilities.

“Live from Nashville” takes the stage at the Performing Arts Center on Jan. 30

Georgia Southern University’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) goes country with “Live from Nashville,” an evening of country music and fun, on Jan. 30. A wildly popular and critically acclaimed performance, “Live from Nashville” treats guests to an exciting song and dance spectacle celebrating the musical tradition that gave Nashville the nickname “Music City.”
