Comprehensive Sexual Assault Awareness Curriculum for University Athletics
Curriculum Description:
The purpose of this curriculum is to provide comprehensive sexual assault prevention education to the student athlete body at Georgia Southern University. The curriculum will serve as a means to open conversations that address topics such as; sexual assault and gender violence while promoting a campus culture of respect, safety and wellness.
Curriculum Objectives:
- To create a safe environment in which difficult topics such as consent, sexual assault, and gender violence can be discussed and solutions can be communicated.
- To provide the campus community with a clear definition of consent.
- To educate on strategies to reduce the incidence of sexual assault and gender violence among the campus community.
- To initiate a call to action and intervene during instances of sexual assault, harassment or gender violence.
- To increase self-efficacy towards bystander intervention practices.
- Sponsoring Departments: Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Health Services, University Athletics, Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX
Georgia Southern University C.A.R.E.s Bystander Intervention Curriculum
Curriculum Description:
GS C.A.R.E’s is an hour long bystander intervention outreach presentation that is available by request to academic classes and student organizations. The presentation educates on the importance of being an active bystander and outlines practical steps for protecting targets of abusive behavior and preventing future violence.
Presentation Topics Include:
- Identifies the concepts, barriers and benefits of bystander intervention
- Explores effective approaches for bystander intervention such as; distracting, supporting confronting and reporting
- Content coverage of consent, healthy relationships, sexual assault, harassment, non-consensual pornography and gender violence
- Review of campus and community resources
Sponsoring Departments: Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Health Services and The University Police Department

What Is Virtual Wellness Coaching?
Wellness Coaching is a free service that provides opportunities for you to gain awareness and learn strategies to help you thrive on campus and beyond. The Body Project is a body acceptance group that meets once a week for four weeks via webex to discuss our culture of unattainable beauty ideals, how those ideals affect us, and how we can promote more realistic and healthy perspectives.
